A Strip foundation is a line of concrete that supports a section of the building like a load bearing wall. It provides a solid foundation to leave the building strong and stable.
Raft foundations provide an alternative for when strip foundations are not suitable for the ground type. The consist of a larger area of concrete which allow the load of the structure to be spread out over larger area therefore making it suitible for different types of land.
A pad foundation is used to support one or more columns. It spreads the load from the column over a greater area on the ground. The size and plan of the pad is determind by the bearing pressue of the soil.
A retaining wall is designed to hold soil in an unnatural slope which then opens up more space for devlopment. It can also be used to create a more stable foundation by making the ground more compact and therefore able to bear more load.
A pile beam is effectively a column of concrete which provides a strong foundation. These work together with ground beams which is a beam of concrete (which is usually reinforced with a steel cage as well as piles) at around ground level which runs vertially along the outline of the proposed structure which provides a strong foundation.
