Raft Foundation Design

Raft foundations are typically designed when the ground conditions are not suitable for the concentrated loads from conventional foundations or if mining activity has occured close by. When building near trees raft foundations can be used to halve the depth of excavation in clay soils. Raft foundations consist of a thickening rib around the perimeter and under primary load bearing walls and an intergral reinforced floor slab.
