Flitch Design

A flitch beam is usually required where a regular timber beam would be inadequate. Flitch Beams are constructed using both timber and a steel plate. The layers of timber have a steel plate sandwiched between and the whole system is held together by bolts. The combination of the lightness of timber with the strength of the steel plate allows the beam to span much further than standard timber beam.
